A Honda Fit parked at Manyenziwe Shopping Centre in Nkulumane 12, Bulawayo, was reduced to a shell on Thursday morning following an explosion gas cylinder inside the vehicle.
According to the Bulawayo City Chief Fire Officer, Mr Mhlangano Moyo, no injuries were recorded.
“We had a car fire at Mayenziwe shops, a Honda Fit carrying gas cylinders, and a 48kg cylinder went up in flames. No injuries were sustained,” said Mr Moyo.
Mr Moyo said the suspected cause of the fire is leaking gas plus confinement inside the vehicle.
He said that the fire department will continue to hold public awareness campaigns on safe gas handling procedures.
