Venezuela arrests 24th suspect in cocaine case

image-of-cocaineCARACAS. – Venezuela yesterday said it had arrested a 24th person in its investigation into how 1,3 tonnes of cocaine was shipped from Caracas to Paris aboard an Air France jet. “The number of people arrested is 24,” said Alejandro Keleris, without divulging details about the new arrest.

Officials said the Air France plane last month left Caracas’ Maiquetia international airport, and arrived in France loaded with drugs distributed among 30 suitcases, but that no one ever came forward to claim the luggage.

Those detained include eight members of Venezuela’s National Guard, various airport officials, and an employee of Air France.

Three Italians and two Britons have also been apprehended in France.

Venezuela is said to be a transit point used by some drug cartels. – AFP.
