VERONICA Gwaze was on Friday crowned National Journalism and Media Awards (NJAMA) Sports Reporter of the Year 2026 at a ceremony in Harare.
The Zimpapers Sports Hub reporter won for her compelling feature titled “Bare feet, big dreams: Mpofu’s journey to the Gems”.
The story was about Zimbabwe senior netball player Prisca Mpofu, chronicling her journey from Silobela where she played barefoot, as a young girl to making her Gems debut at the recent Netball World Cup Qualifiers.
The story explores resilience and how Mpofu defied the odds in a marginalised community where dreams often die.
