VETERAN broadcaster and former senior Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation employee Ishmael Kadungure has died. Kadungure (70), who was a younger brother to the late national hero and former Defence Minister Cde Ernest Kadungure, died at his Chisipite home yesterday.
Family spokesperson and nephew Mr David Mutenzwa confirmed the death of Kadungure last night.

“He died today (yesterday) at his home. He had not been feeling well lately and also suffered a minor stroke recently,” Mr Mutenzwa said.

Kadungure was born in Chivhu on July 1, 1944, and was the fifth born in a family of 10. He did his primary education at St Thomas and St Augustine’s Mission before proceeding to Bernard Mizeki College for his secondary education. He then joined the then Rhodesia Broadcasting Corporation in the late 1960s as a radio announcer.

He was appointed head of the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation’s Radio Three (now Power FM) at its inception in 1981.

He left ZBC to join the now defunct Joy TV after which he ventured into farming when the television channel ceased operations. Kadungure is survived by a wife, five children and several grand children. He is expected to be buried tomorrow at Kadungure Village in Chivhu.
