THE late Advocate Lot Senda who is one of the first black lawyers in Zimbabwe will be buried today at Athlone Cemetery.

Adv Senda died on Friday night at Mater Dei Hospital in Bulawayo after a short illness. He was 92.

Family spokesperson and grandson Mr Kalani Mjayeli Ndlovu said his burial will be State assisted.

“We will lay him to rest tomorrow at Athlone Cemetery in Bulawayo. A service will be held at the Brethren in Christ Church along Masotsha Ndlovu Street at 8.30AM before we proceed to Athlone,” said Mr Ndlovu.

Adv Senda witnessed the nascent stages of nationalism, its internal intrigues with the crude and repressive racism of white Rhodesia.

Adv Senda who was Zapu legal consultant, worked closely with other nationalists such as the late national hero, Cde Herbert Chitepo, who was also a lawyer from the Zanu side.

The late Adv Senda represented Chief Vezi Maduna of Insiza and Cde Dumiso Dabengwa during the liberation struggle.

Adv Senda and the late High Court judge, Washington Sansole were among the first black lawyers to set up a law firm, the Sansole and Senda Legal Practioners which is still in existence but now run by a new breed of legal minds.

He is survived by three children, two daughters and a son as well as several grandchildren.
