Khumbulani Magama (50), the general manager of Vevhu Resources and a suspected land baron, has appeared in court on allegations of assaulting a rival land developer over land issues.

Magama faced three counts of assault when he appeared before a Harare magistrate.

He was remanded out of custody to June 24 for trial.

The court heard that on May 20, Magama, who was accompanied by several suspected thugs that are still at large, approached Action Saungweme at his Vantage Spitzkop office.

It is alleged that Magama asked Saungweme why he was not in his office before ordering him to go inside while assaulting him with his hands on the face.

While in the office, Magama continued assaulting Saungweme before seizing his cellphone and US$300.

The court heard that Magama also tore Saungweme’s files and membership cards.
