The festival which runs until 31 December will see the resort town explode with multi-cultural diversity as a number of artistes from across the continent grace the event.
The festival will culminate with a celebration marking the New Year and will bring together top artistes from South Africa, Zimbabwe and Zambia.
Artistes billed to perform at the festival include the South African singer-songwriter Zahara who released her debut album Loliwe in 2011 which proved to be a big success as it went Platinum in 13 days and went double platinum after just 17 days, selling over 100 000 copies in South Africa.
Included in her list of accolades are eight SAMA awards including best female artiste and album of the year.
Also set to headline the event alongside Zahara is music superstar Oliver Mtukudzi whose music needs no introduction to people on the continent. Other artistes include South African band Plush, Zambian superstar Daniel Siulapwa better known as Danny and Evicted, Chicken Bas and DJ Francis, all from Zimbabwe.
Other artistes from Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana and South Africa will also be included in the festival programme.
In a statement, organisers of the festival said the carnival would be a great advertisement for Victoria Falls as well as an opportunity for local people to make sound business advancements.
“The Victoria Falls Carnival is a community project which will provide a platform for local small business involvement and will boost the local economy of Victoria Falls.
“The carnival company itself will also be donating infrastructure back to the local communities and schools. This along with other community projects will leave behind a permanent legacy that will benefit all stakeholders in the region. It will also provide a showcase for local talent and unearthed talent,” said the statement.
The programme of events over the duration of the festival will include community projects, planting of trees at local schools and other sites. Circus activities, carnival rides, local stalls and other activities around the carnival grounds will be part of the festivities.
The festival is also being held in celebration of the selection of Livingstone in Zambia and Victoria Falls as the host towns of the 20th United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) General Assembly meeting next August.
