THE Victoria Falls Swimming Pool that was renovated at a cost of about $50 000, is ready and is set to be commissioned next week.

The pool, which is earmarked for professional swimming activities as well as for use by tourists and locals, was closed more than a decade ago.

The United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) injected $60 000 for legacy projects in Victoria Falls in 2014 and $47 500 was used to renovate the pool.

Chairperson of the steering committee Olga Mutamba said: “The refurbishment of the swimming pool has been completed and it will be commissioned on Tuesday.”

Mutamba said once commissioned, the swimming pool, located in Chinotimba suburb, will be handed over to the Victoria Falls Municipality.

“The pool will be handed over to the municipality, which will decide on its operations,” said Mutamba.

The refurbished pool, is the only public swimming pool in Victoria Falls and adds to the few sporting facilities in the resort town.

The pool will also be used as a training facility by tour guides on life saving skills.

“Victoria Falls is known for rafting, which requires guides to have proper training. This particular swimming pool will also be used for training purposes by local schools and guides who do rafting.

“We want to encourage our youths to fully utilise the pool and develop their swimming careers,” she said. — @nonsy_m
