THE Victoria Falls Municipality has set a target of $10,000 for the 2015 Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund. The local authority maintained last year’s target which it failed to meet.
This year, the town council is optimistic as it has already raised about $5,000, beating last year’s collection of $3,500.
Speaking at the launch, the Mayor Councillor Sifiso Mpofu said: “We’ve no doubt that you’ve prepared a generous donation to put a smile on the face of the less privileged members of our community. Last year we raised an equivalent of $3,500 in cash and groceries which were donated to old people’s homes and children’s homes.”
He said council appreciated the sacrifices donors made under the prevailing economic hardships to extend the cheer to disadvantaged members of the community.
The business community which is dominated by tour operators, hotels and lodges has already started donating towards the fund.
