VICE President Dr Constantino Chiwenga has arrived in Managua, the capital of Nicaragua, to attend the 45th Sandinista Revolutionary Celebrations.

He was received at the Augusto C. Sandino International Airport by Cde Valdrack Jaentschke, Minister Advisor to the President for International Affairs.

The visit highlights the long-standing relations between Zimbabwe and Nicaragua, which date back to the time of the liberation struggle. Zimbabwe was the third African country to establish diplomatic ties with Nicaragua, and recently, Nicaragua opened an embassy in Zimbabwe, making it the sixth African country to host a Nicaraguan resident embassy.

The 45th Sandinista Revolutionary Celebrations commemorate the historic Sandinista revolution in Nicaragua, which overthrew the Somoza dictatorship in 1979.

Vice President Chiwenga’s attendance underscores the strong ties between the two nations and their shared experiences in the struggle for independence and social justice.
