Man arrested for smuggling goods worth more than US$30k at Nyamapanda Border Post

A MAN (31) was arrested for smuggling used clothing and farm produce worth US$31 235 at Nyamapanda Border Post recently.

Casper Kokerai (31) was arrested with 172 bales of second-hand clothes, 10 boxes of second-hand shoes, two sacks of second-hand handbags, four sacks of mixed clothes, two boxes of Malawi Gin, one box of mixed fish, 1 X 50 kg mealie-meal, 3 X 50kg sacks of cowpeas, two boxes chilli and 7 X 50 kg sacks groundnuts.

In a statement on X, police they were manning a security checkpoint when they acted on a tip-off and intercepted Kokerai who was driving a Volvo truck registration number AGL 00963.

A search was conducted by the police leading to the recovery of the contraband.
