VICE President Dr Constantino Chiwenga delivered remarks underscoring the importance of unity and industrialization as Zimbabwe moves towards its goal of becoming an upper-middle-income economy by 2030 at the 21st Zanu PF Annual People’s Conference.
His speech came shortly after President Emmerson Mnangagwa celebrated his 82nd birthday and was appointed chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
Dr Chiwenga congratulated President Mnangagwa on successfully hosting the 44th SADC Heads of State and Government Summit, acknowledging the leadership qualities that have fostered peace and stability in Zimbabwe.
“May God continue to give you long life,” he said, highlighting the President’s contributions to the nation.
Praising the peaceful conduct of Zimbabweans during the conference, VP Chiwenga emphasised the need for the gathering to generate resolutions that promote industrialisation and modernisation.
“We should use the conference to come up with resolutions that spur industrialisation for modernisation,” he said, reaffirming the party’s commitment to fulfilling the electorate’s trust in uplifting lives.
The Vice President called for enhanced food security measures and a shift towards a knowledge-driven economy, urging industry to respond effectively to the needs of the people.
He noted the importance of reviewing the resolutions from the previous National People’s Conference held in the Midlands, as Zimbabwe approaches the end of National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) and prepares for NDS2.
“We need to come up with programmes and policies that uplift communities, ensuring that no one and no place is left behind,” he said.
VP Chiwenga commended President Mnangagwa’s promotion of home-grown solutions through the initiative “Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Vayo,” which emphasizes local development.
In closing, he invited President Mnangagwa to address the gathering, reinforcing the need for collective action against neo-colonial agendas and illegal sanctions, and urging all Zimbabweans to work together for the country’s development. The conference aims to solidify strategies that will guide Zimbabwe towards a prosperous future.
