“OUR national leaders will not bequeath the country to drug and substance abusers”.
Vice-President Kembo Mohadi made the declaration yesterday during a tour of Ncema Valley Sports Club in Umzingwane District, which will house the Matabeleland South Zimbabwe Cricket Academy in Esigodini.
He was accompanied by Matabeleland South Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Dr Evelyn Ndlovu, Deputy Minister of Defence, Retired Brigadier-General Levi Mayihlome, senior Government officials in the Ministry of Sports and Culture and high ranking cricket administrators led by Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) boss, Mr Tavengwa Mukhuhlani and provincial boss Arthur Maphosa.
ZC have shown confidence in the province by choosing Esigodini to be one of the cricket centres of excellence.
It is a multi-million dollar investment that is set to put the district on the map with the promotion of sports tourism in which locals will benefit.
Cricket in Matabeleland South is expected to get a big lift off. Esigodini is home to Falcon College and some years ago some of the school’s stars starred at Ncema Valley Sports Club, which is now going to be the home of the Zimbabwe Cricket Academy.

Addressing delegates that attended the event who included school children from Mzingwane High School, Esigodini Primary School and Mvuthu, Vice-President Mohadi said as the leadership they were disturbed with the increase in drug and substance abuse cases.
He said the trend was impacting negatively in the nation and a great danger to the youths who are the future of the nation. VP Mohadi said there was no room for abusers in sport and society in general.
“Young people are indulging in drug and substance abuse. We discourage you from that, its impact is negative to your brains.
“We need to engage as a country. We want to bequeath the nation to a people of sound minds. You have a future,” said the Vice-President.
The Government has been leading a campaign against drug and substance abuse. Many promising talents have been lost in sport and many intelligent youths have also been hit by the scourge robbing the country of potential leaders.
The Vice-President reiterated the need to leave the country in the safe hands of sober minds.
He called upon parents to take the facility as theirs and ensure it is kept in sound condition.
“Let’s us look after it jealously, it’s ours, you are one of the provinces with this kind of facility,” said Vice-President Mohadi.
