Sifelani (75) died at his plot near Gweru last Thursday night after complaining of stomach cramps.
In his condolence message, VP Nkomo said: “It is so sad that Morrison Sifelani has passed away.
“I knew him around the 1960s when we worked together in the then Ministry of Industry and Labour.
“We worked together in fighting colonial labour exploitation and advocated for employment of indigenous citizens.
“Such activism led to the establishment of the Indigenous Business Committee, which advocated for the interests of black employees.”
Cde Nkomo described Sifelani as a friendly person who did not hesitate to put his ideas across without fear.
Sifelani was born in Ntabazinduna in 1935 and attended Dadaya High School in Zvishavane. He turned out for Dynamos Football Club at its inception in 1963.
But it was after independence that he played a prominent role in football administration.
Sifelani and colleagues like Chris Sibanda, formed the breakaway National Premier Soccer League, which later became the Premier Soccer League, ushering in a new era in topflight football as this gave clubs more control over their finances and destinies.
Sifelani was chairperson when Dynamos reached the 1998 CAF Champions League Final.
He had a long and illustrious career in club football administration. He got involved with club football at Hippo Valley and Ziscosteel before going to the UK in 1975 for his Football Association coaching badge.
At the time of his death, Sifelani was an active member of Gweru Agenda and spent most of his time in business and farming.
He is survived by wife, Margaret and 11 children. Mourners are gathered at Plot 1 Shurugwi Road.-The Herald
