Famona, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe — Vice Presidents Dr Constantino Chiwenga and Cde Kembo Mohadi have arrived at the Famona site where President Emmerson Mnangagwa is set to lead a vital tree planting programme.

The initiative reflects Zimbabwe’s ongoing commitment to combat climate change and restore its natural environment.

Earlier this year, during the International Conference on Afforestation and Reforestation (ICAR) held in Brazzaville, Congo, Vice President Mohadi highlighted the urgency of addressing climate change. He said: “Afforestation and reforestation mean that we are trying to bring back the norm, what it was, so that we mitigate the issues of climate change.”

He emphasised the hardships caused by climate change, noting the prevalence of natural disasters in Southern Africa and the need for proactive measures to protect the environment.

Today’s event is expected to draw attention to the Government’s efforts in enhancing environmental sustainability, with a particular focus on reversing the impacts of deforestation.

The participation of both Vice Presidents underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in tackling these pressing issues.
