Three unidentified robbers reportedly stole a car in Chitungwiza and tried to use the same car to rob a passenger who overpowered them in Harare. Harare acting provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Tarirai Dube said police impounded the car, a white Toyota Fun Cargo, after the robbers fled the scene.

It is alleged that on January 23 at around 10pm Blessed Chinotandara (29) of 106 Shelda Drive in Ruwa boarded the car which had four occupants at Fourth Street.

He intended to go to Marondera.
On reaching the intersection of Robert Mugabe and Chiremba roads one of the men grabbed Chinotandara by the neck and ordered him to surrender all his valuables.

The other two men joined in to force Chinotandara to comply with the order but he fought and overpowered them before grabbing the steering wheel and stopping the car at the road side.

The four fled, prompting Chinotandara to deflate all the tyres before reporting the matter at Harare Central police station.
