VICTORIA Falls Boxing Club founder Tobias Owen Muposiwa has bigger plans for the boxing academy as he has started constructing a multi-purpose facility to house a gym and children’s home.
Muposiwa has lifted Victoria Falls’ boxing flag higher with the help of the corporate world and individuals by identifying raw talent which has represented the country at various levels.
After establishing the club a few years ago, Muposiwa has acquired land where construction of a double storey gym and children’s orphanage is underway.
His vision is to establish orphanages in every province across the country.
Already, Muposiwa is taking care of nine orphans at the club premises and targets to have 100 countrywide.
The club currently operates from rented premises in the industrial area where training and tournaments are hosted and the new premises will be at the CBZ stands between Mkhosana and Chinotimba suburbs.
“We acquired land and started building three months ago. The gym will have all kinds of equipment including a boxing ring and a seating deck for fans.
“The plan is that wherever we establish a gym, there should be a children’s home where vulnerable children will be taken care of and here there will be a double-storey home with 10 bedrooms. We plan to have homes in different provinces because there are kids who flee back into the streets after being taken in and my belief is that if they are in a different province they won’t run away,” said Muposiwa.
He indicated that he is working with the Department of Social Welfare in preparation for establishment of a children’s home.
Muposiwa said a container with boxing and gym equipment will be coming from USA while other gear will be bought in South Africa.
He believes that Victoria Falls Boxing Club has been progressing well and has produced a number of boxers that have made it to the national team while the sport has also grown from exposure.
Two boxers affiliated to the club, Kelvin Taliyana and Nothabo Ncube made it to the recent Region 5 Youth Games team that participated in Malawi although Ncube ended up not travelling.
