LAST Friday night marked the launch of the summer season celebrations at Palace Hotel gardens in Bulawayo, where Harare-based Zimdancehall chanter Hwinza and Bulawayo-based disco maestro Abigail Mabuza were the headline acts.

The two youthful musicians have found solace at the venue, as the support they receive plays a significant role in uplifting local music.

As early as 7 PM, revellers began making their way to the venue to witness a night of amusement.

Wheel spinners DJ Keitho, DJ Ayaxx, and DJ Tetso belted out hit tracks from Zimdancehall, House, Amapiano, and Sungura, among other genres. Notably, Killer T’s “Kana Ndanyura” track has been tipped for the “Song of the Year” accolade, as it was played on repeat several times due to public demand.

Across the border, Botswana-born DJ Ngwazi’s “Fake Love,” featuring Zimbabweans DJ Tawanda and Nelcy B, ruled the roost, with a couple of Nkosazana Daughter and Master KG tracks following suit.

Shortly after midnight, Abigail Mabuza took to the stage to deliver a sublime performance. The support she received from the crowd through her tracks, including “Usbale Wenu,” “Kwamula Sibone,” “Single,” and “Sdunusela eKariba,” proved that her relocation to Zimbabwe was an ideal business move.

Her over one-hour set was laced with catchy dance moves that left the crowd yearning for more.

As she stepped off stage, Hwinza took over until the early hours of the morning, proving that the over 400-kilometre journey to the City of Kings and Queens could not dampen his energy.

To show support for his fellow Zimdancehall counterparts, he performed songs by artists such as the late hero Soul Jah Love and Seh Calaz during his set.

His “Lula Lula” track was one of the crowd’s favourites, solidifying that the summer season celebrations at the venue are officially underway.
