Villagers in Hurungwe have expressed satisfaction with how the Presidential Well-Wishers Inputs Scheme is being run in their district.
President Mugabe’s input programme is meant to ensure food security at household level.Unlike previous years when people would spend days at Grain Marketing Board depots waiting to access the inputs, the villagers say this year there is a high degree of accountability.
Inputs are no longer exclusively distributed at GMB depots. Councillors, Agritex officers and village heads are in charge of the process and distribution is done at venues convenient to the villagers.
“Inputs have been availed on time, which undoubtedly has encouraged most villagers to focus on land preparation well before the rains.
“Last year some of my subjects who benefited from the programme never planted the seed as it came late,” said Mucherechese village head, Mr Mark Kopa Chanetsa of Ward 11 under Chief Nematombo.
According to Mr Chanetsa, all the 38 households under him received their allocations. Ward 10 councillor Cde Badwell Chasara, said most villagers in his ward had confidence in the new system.
“The current system is popular with villagers not only because it brings the inputs to their doorsteps, but it is also transparent and fair,” said Cllr Chasara.
