ZIMBABWEAN golfer Scott Vincent found the going tough in the opening round of the US Amateur at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Greek, Georgia, when he shot a three-over par 74 on Monday.
The Zimbabwean was tied for 133rd place entering yesterday’s second and final round.
Vincent, a rising senior from Harare, made the turn at three over, but played even-par for the second nine, which was actually the front nine at the AAC’s Highland Course.
The golfer was nine strokes off the lead of three-under-par of Jimmy Beck of nearby Kennesaw State, Sam Horsfield of Scotland and Arkansas’ Taylor Moore.
The field of 312 will participate in 18 holes of stroke play at the US Amateur which had its final round late yesterday evening before the top 64 players advanced to six rounds of Match Play.
The event will conclude with a 36-hole championship match.
Meanwhile, local amateurs are heading to Chinhoyi this week where the Chirorodziva Golf Classic will be held.
The inaugural event comes barely a week after the most prestigious local tournament for amateur golfers — the Zimbabwe Amateur Championships — was held.
The tournament will be played at Chinhoyi Golf Club.
