ZIMBABWEAN professional golfer Scott Vincent struggled on the back nine at the start of the 154th The Open Golf Championship at Royal Birkdale yesterday.

Vincent, who is making his second appearance at a Major tournament, opened with a five-over-par 75.

The Open Championship is the oldest of the four Major tournaments.

Vincent is clearly in elite company.

He shot a one-over par 35 in the opening nine and then a four-over par 40 in the second nine.

He birdied the par three fourth and two bogies on the seventh and eighth holes meant he finished the opening nine on one over par.

The back nine was tougher for him with bogeys on the par three 12th hole, par four 13th and a double bogey on the par three 15th.

He birdied the penultimate hole but another bogey on the 18th saw him come home five-over- par.
