ZIMBABWEAN professional golfer Scott Vincent makes his second Open Championship appearance this morning at Royal Birkdale in Southport, England.

The 34-year-old first played at St Andrews in 2022 but missed the cut.

This week’s start at Royal Birkdale will be his third career major.

Vincent qualified by finishing fifth on the International Federation list, which identifies top international players across select tours, including the Asian Tour.

He has six career wins, including two on the Asian Tour’s International Series.

His 2025 International Series title earned him entry into LIV Golf this season.

He began the year as a Wild Card but has played the last four tournaments for HyFlyers GC.

Vincent also competes on the Asian Tour and Japan Golf Tour.

The test ahead of the 154th Open is expected to be a different challenge from 2017, when play was suspended at Birkdale due to heavy wind and rain.

This week’s forecast points to firm, sun-baked conditions — more “fiery” than wet. Vincent tees off at 9:36am alongside American Stewart Cink and Swede Joakim Lagergren. Several of the world’s top players are in the field for the game’s oldest major.

Last year, Vincent captured the International Series Morocco title, adding to his International Series England triumph in 2022.

He also came agonisingly close to another victory when he lost to Australia’s Wade Ormsby in a playoff at the Jakarta International Championship.

Before establishing himself on the global stage, Vincent enjoyed a breakthrough spell on the Japan Golf Tour, winning three tournaments between August 2021 and May 2022.

His dramatic victory at the 2022 Mizuno Open proved particularly significant. Starting the final round seven shots behind leader Anthony Quayle, Vincent fired a brilliant seven-under-par 65 before prevailing in a playoff to secure both the title and his maiden appearance at The Open.

That success came after years of persistence. Having turned professional in 2015 following a collegiate career at Virginia Tech, Vincent recorded five runner-up finishes on the Asian Tour before finally breaking through with victory at the Sansan KBC Augusta in 2021.

Four weeks later, he claimed a second Japan Tour title at the ANA Open, confirming himself as one of the circuit’s leading players.

Now based in Denver, Colorado, with his wife Kelsey and family, Vincent returns to The Open as a far more accomplished player than the one who made his major debut at St Andrews four years ago.

A six-time professional tournament winner, the Zimbabwean will be hoping his experience on the LIV Golf League and continued success on the international circuit can translate into a memorable performance at Royal Birkdale as he once again flies Zimbabwe’s flag on one of golf’s grandest stages.

A little less than 10 percent of the field at the 2026 Open Championship calls LIV Golf home.

The final men’s major championship of the year heads to Royal Birkdale in Southport. The last time the Open was contested at the venue, Jordan Spieth took home the title.

A field of 156 players, including Zimbabwe’s Vincent, will take the course this week, and 15 of those play golf at LIV.

Among them are one past champion and another making his debut in the oldest major championship. Another past winner, Louis Oosthuizen, withdrew on Monday due to a back injury.

This week’s tournament features several other familiar International Series names, including current Rankings leader Travis Smyth, two-time Rankings champion Vincent, and proven Series winners Josele Ballester, Peter Uihlein, and Lucas Herbert.
