THE Zimbabwe Professional Golfers Association (ZPGA) have joined the country’s golfing community in celebrating Scott Vincent’s qualification for the 2025 US Open.

The prestigious tournament will be played at the historic Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pennsylvania, from June 12 to 15.

Vincent secured his ticket to the third major championship of the year through the US Open Final Qualifying event held in Japan.

The qualifier took place on Monday at Tarao Country Club (West Course) in Shiga Prefecture.

Speaking to Zimpapers Sports Hub, ZPGA president Akil Yousuf expressed pride in Vincent’s achievements.

“We are proud that the Zimbabwean flag will be flying at the US Open after a period of absence. Scott has been representing the country admirably, alongside other professionals.

“This is quite an achievement and, as fellow pros and Zimbabweans, we are all excited to see one of our own competing at such a high level.

“I am sure he is also thrilled and we hope he performs to the best of his ability,” said Yousuf.

With only three qualification spots available in the Japan leg, competition was fierce in the 36-hole event.

Vincent delivered a stellar performance, carding an impressive 10-under-par 134 to tie for top spot with Japan’s Yuta Sugiura and secure his place in the US Open.

Vincent shot identical rounds of 67.

A former world number 78, now ranked 436, Vincent drew attention when he joined LIV Golf, initially moving between teams before landing with Torque GC under Joaquin Niemann, and later joining Kevin Na’s Iron Heads.

However, following the conclusion of the 2024 LIV Golf season, Vincent was relegated and replaced by South Korean golfer Yubin Yang.

Since then, he has continued to compete on the Asian Tour.
