TWO brothers who are seen in a viral video allegedly violently punching and kicking a medical doctor at a leisure spot have appeared in court.

Prince Mugwagwa (26) and Nigel Mugwagwa (32) from Nketa suburb in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, appeared in court on Saturday before Bulawayo Magistrate Ms Barbra Phiri facing assault charges.

They were not asked to plead and were remanded in custody to appear in the Bulawayo Regional Court on Monday next week where the State will alter the charges to attempted murder.

The Mugwagwa brothers are represented by their lawyer, Mr Simbarashe Innocent Madzivire of Mashayamombe Law Firm.

The Principal Prosecutor, Mr Milton Moyo, told the court that the Mugwagwa brothers were at Cotton Kraal Bar situated at Bradfield Shopping Centre and they had a misunderstanding with Mkhonzeni Sibanda (40).

“They had a misunderstanding over an undisclosed issue. In the midst of that, Prince grabbed the complainant by the collar and rained fists on him. They kicked him all over the body with booted feet. The Mugwagwa brothers were joined by two other unidentified men who are on the run in punching and kicking him,” said Mr Moyo.

The complainant was rushed to hospital for medical attention. A medical report will be produced in court as an exhibit.
