Violent MDC-T youths remanded in custody

Court Reporter
Two more MDC-T supporters who were part of the gang that engaged in intra-party violence in Chitungwiza at a memorial service for their colleague, have been remanded in custody.
Eleven others have already appeared in court on similar charges.

Egen Kambewa (29) who is jointly charged with Stanford Chanakira of the same age and from Chitungwiza, were not formally charged with public fighting when they appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Lazarus Murendo.

They were remanded in custody to Thursday for bail ruling.

Circumstances are that on April 12 at around 3pm, the two were part of the group that gathered at house number 10657 Nehanda Road in Zengeza with their accomplices.

They started chanting party slogans that did not go down well with party members from a different faction, leading to a scuffle that saw some of them being injured.

Prosecutor Mr Tendai Mukariri said the accused had earlier been asked to disperse by a policeman but they regrouped when he left.
