A MUTARE woman who claims that she has been rendered a prisoner in her late-husband’s house by her stepson has approached the Mutare Civil Courts for protection.

Violet Dhliwayo said she was now living in fear at her house as her stepson, Forget Mutepfa was harassing her.

Ms Anniah Ndiraya presided over the matter.

“He says I should not give him orders at the house as it is his late father’s house and I am not his mother. My husband had three wives, the first one passed away and the second one who is Mutepfa’s mother went back to her parents’ house. I am the only one left at the house and I take care of all the children including him,” she said.

She went on to tell the court that after looking after Mutepfa, he moved out of the family house, only to come back after marrying.

Mutepfa did not dismiss the claims. He said he also wanted to stay in peace with his step-mother.

Ms Ndiraya, however, told him to behave otherwise Dhliwayo has the right to evict him as she is the surviving spouse.

“You are not your father’s wife and you are no longer a minor and therefore you are not even supposed to be at the family house. You should behave yourself and grant your stepmother the respect that she deserves or else the court will order an eviction,” she said.

She also told him to minimise the number of friends he brought to the family house as he was putting his minor female grandchildren in danger of abuse.

This was after Dhliwayo had complained that he was operating a gym facility in her garden that attracted strangers.
