AT just 15 years old, Lindokuhle Dlamini is already drawing the kind of attention many aspiring musicians can only hope for. The Njube High School learner has quickly become a name people are talking about after a video of her singing at a school event spread widely on social media. In a short space of time, she has captured the attention of music lovers, gospel artistes and ordinary Zimbabweans, all impressed by her powerful voice and natural confidence.
What started as a simple performance during a school ceremony has turned into something much bigger. Lindokuhle had been singing at an event where the school’s girls’ rugby team received a full set of uniforms donated by former pupils. It was an ordinary school function, but her performance stood out so strongly that it has now opened doors to new possibilities for the young singer.
The video, which was shared on The Chronicle’s Facebook page, quickly gained traction. It attracted hundreds of comments, shares and reactions from people across the country. Many viewers praised the teenager for her maturity and stage presence, while others described her as one of Bulawayo’s most promising young talents. Some even called on established musicians to step in and help guide and support her as she develops her gift.
Among those who noticed her was award-winning gospel musician and worship leader Everton Mlalazi. His reaction added even more attention to Lindokuhle’s rising profile.
“Come on now!!! Such a gift,” he commented.
His words reflected what many people were already saying — that Lindokuhle has something special. His endorsement also strengthened the calls for industry players to help nurture her talent and give her the support she needs to grow.
Social media users were just as vocal in their support. Some took it a step further, tagging well-known gospel musicians in the hope that they would take an interest in Lindokuhle’s journey. One of them, Sabrina Hermine Sibanda, directly appealed to gospel musician Michael Mahendere.
“You once posted that you were looking for someone to help grow in music. I think there is one more candidate. Please choose her.”
For Lindokuhle, music is not just something she does for fun. It is something she takes seriously and sees as part of her future. She is actively involved in several choirs, both at school and in her church. She sings in the school choir, takes part in the Scripture union choir and is also a member of a local gospel group called Vessels of Praise. These platforms have helped her grow her confidence and strengthen her voice.
Her love for gospel music has also been shaped by the artistes she listens to. Among them is Nigerian gospel star GUC, whose music has influenced her style and passion for worship. Like many young people with big dreams, Lindokuhle already knows what she wants to achieve.
One of her biggest ambitions is to one day share a stage with popular local gospel group The Unveiled. She speaks about them with clear admiration and inspiration.
“I like The Unveiled videos. I like their songs. I like everything about The Unveiled, so I wish to sing with them in the future,” she said.
Her choice of favourite song also reflects her outlook on life and music. She enjoys singing Goodness of God, a worship song that speaks about faith and God’s loyalty. It is a message she connects with as she continues to grow and find her path.
The support Lindokuhle has received has also highlighted Bulawayo’s strong reputation as a home of artistic talent.
Many people pointed out that areas like Njube, Mzilikazi and Makokoba have always produced gifted musicians and performers.
“Bulawayo, especially Njube, Mzilikazi and Makokoba, have always been the soul and heart of talent when it comes to art and music,” commented one social media user.
Another added: “Njube to the world. It starts from there, but it does not end there.”
Despite all the attention, Lindokuhle has remained grounded. She continues to focus on her schoolwork while developing her talent, something many supporters have encouraged her to maintain. They have urged her to stay disciplined and balanced as she grows both academically and musically.
“Keep shining, little girl. Let us support this beautiful soul,” wrote one follower.
According to people close to her, Lindokuhle’s journey may only just be beginning. Several individuals have already reached out, expressing interest in supporting and helping her develop her talent further. If the current support continues, her future in music could be very promising.
