THE newly-appointed headmistress of Petra High School in Bulawayo was on Monday dragged to court for allegedly violating conditions of her residence permit.

May Heather Wells, a British national, came to Zimbabwe on an investor’s permit.

Prosecutors say Wells, of Cold Overton Road in Oarkham, London, declared herself a director of a company called Flip Storm Services and obtained an investor’s visa which expires on March 12 this year.

The temporary residence permit, said Charles Dada for the state, was issued on the strength of her investing in the country only.

On January 1, the court heard, Wells was issued with a three-year contract at Petra High School after she was engaged as the school head.

She was seized by immigration officers on January 26 for violating conditions of her investor’s permit.

Wells, who lives on Park Road in Suburbs, appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Victor Mpofu and was granted $50 bail “without conditions”.

Her trial is set for February 17.

Lesley Sibanda is defending.
