VISUALLY impaired Milton ‘DJ Millaz’ Kanyenze has been invited to participate at the Blantyre Arts Festival (BAF) set for October 4 to 6.
The festival was last attended by the late legendary musician Oliver Mtukudzi in 2011.
He is however, seeking US$800 for all the expenses. DJ Millaz who is part of Star FM said, this is an opportunity.
“It’s a great honour to be part of this event, it’s a great step and achievement considering that I am totally blind. And also being a Zimbabwean who will be performing there is a great benefit. I take this as an opportunity and I love inclusivity as someone who is blind.
“Performing at this festival is an opportunity to achieve the goal as someone who is totally blind,” said Millaz. He is in need of US$800 for his travel costs.
“BAF will not be offering any financial help and I am in need of around US$800 which will cater for our accommodation, transport and food for me and my assistant.
“I am pleading with corporate sponsors to come to my rescue and support me financially.”
BAF is an open festival.
“It’s an open arts festival for everything to do with culture.
“It will be about culture, anyone who want to partner with me, I will be more impressed.
“The event is a partnership between Malawi and Germany.
“It’s an exchange programme, which allows artists from Germany and Malawi to interact.
“The director heard me on Star FM radio before they sent the invitation.”
In the letter, Milton was singled out.
“Blantyre Arts and Cultural Festival is inviting Milton to come and be part of our Arts and Cultural Festival in Malawi and perform during the Festival.
“The festival will be held from October 4 to 6 at Kamuzu Upper stadium. Its free Festival and its on an open space stage.
Blantyre Arts Festival will be grateful to have Milton in Malawi and continued to share our cultural exchange between Malawi and Zimbabwe.”
BAF they are not able to fund for Milton’s trip.
“Due to funding difficulties, BAF is requesting Milton to make his own travel and accommodation costs. We just want to let you know that the late Dr Oliver Mtukudzi performed at BAF 2011.
“We are looking forward to have Milton to perform at BAF 2024 in Malawi.”
