Volleyball league kicks off

THE Zimbabwe Volleyball Association National League starts this weekend with teams fighting for slots to represent the country at the Zone VI Club Championships next month.
Eight teams both in the men’s and women’s categories will fight it out to be among three teams which will travel to Swaziland from 14-22 December.

The league will run in a space of three weeks as it is expected to end on 23 November.
ZRP Raiders, Highlanders, Harare Polytechnic, University of Zimbabwe, Black Rhinos and Support Unit will battle it out in the women’s category. In the men’s category there is Naba Stars, Support Unit, Harare Polytechnic, Stanbic Bank, Black Rhinos, ZRP Harare and University of Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, ZRP Raiders coach Vulindlela Moyo said he has shifted focus to the league as they target the Zone Six Club Championships after a disappointing regional World Cup qualifying campaign in Zambia last month.

Moyo said he is putting behind the national team disappointment and focusing on his next assignment.
“I was disappointed with our performance at the Zone Six World Cup qualifying campaign, however we are now shifting our focus to the club games,” he said.

The veteran coach Moyo said  he is expecting Proceed Mkhonto to lead her troops as she had an excellent tournament for the national team which saw her being crowned best libero in Zambia.

Women: ZRP Raiders, Highlanders, Harare Polytechnic, Black Rhinos, University of Zimbabwe, Black Rhinos, Support Unit.
