A TEAM of specialist doctors has pledged to provide free medical services at the Muduvuri Pan African Referral Hospital in Kadoma.
This development is expected to improve access to advanced healthcare services in the region.
The hospital, built by Kadoma businessman and philanthropist Mr Jimayi Muduvuri, was officially commissioned by President Mnangagwa in 2023.
It offers free services to people with disabilities, the elderly, war veterans, restrictees and detainees.
The team of doctors, led by clinical and interventional radiologist Dr Coming Hove, toured the facility on Sunday and expressed satisfaction with the hospital’s modern equipment, which they pledged to help set up.
Most of the new equipment is yet to be installed owing to a lack of qualified medical specialists at the facility.
“As specialists, we felt it was important to give back to our country. What we have seen here is a facility with modern equipment and great potential to serve communities,” said Dr Hove.
“We have therefore agreed as a team to volunteer our expertise and provide specialist services so that patients can access quality care locally without travelling long distances.”
Dr Hove, who also lectures at the University of Zimbabwe, said the institution had the potential to support medical training.
“Beyond providing specialist services, I also see this hospital becoming a platform for training the next generation of doctors,” he said.
“I will be bringing students under my wing to come here for hands-on experience so they can learn in a real clinical environment.”
Student surgeon, Dr Kumbula Hove, said the hospital was well equipped theatre unit to support specialist procedures.
“I am particularly impressed by the level of equipment available here. With the infrastructure already in place, this facility can easily support specialist procedures and significantly improve access to advanced healthcare services for people in this region,” he said.
Philanthropist Muduvuri welcomed the doctors’ commitment, saying it complemented the Government’s efforts to improve healthcare delivery.
“We are grateful to the doctors who have come forward to support this vision. Our objective has always been to create a centre that benefits communities through quality healthcare,” he said.
“The coming on board of specialists demonstrates what can be achieved when private citizens join hands with the Government in national development.”
The hospital is currently equipped with state-of-the-art scans, X-rays, and dental surgery machines.
