GEARS have shifted in The Sunday Mail Baby of the Year competition, it is voting time! Every year, hundreds of parents enter their babies in the competition run by Zimbabwe’s largest selling, most read, and leading family newspaper, in conjunction with Jet Stores. Jet Stores, with their “I am a Jet Baby” clothing range, are the main partner for the prestigious competition.
Entries were being received at both Jet Stores and Zimpapers offices and the 120 lucky finalists in the four categories of this year’s competition were published in last week’s edition of The Sunday Mail Leisure (Sunday October 9). The four categories are 0-12 month old boys, 0-12 month old girls, 13-24 month old girls and 13-24 month old boys. Each category has 30 babies vying for the ultimate honour of being named The Sunday Mail Baby of the Year.
Voting starts today and will run for the next four weeks, with one category being featured per week for voting purposes. After all the votes have been counted and verified, the official announcement of the winning babies will be done on November 27, with the prize-giving ceremony on December 3.
Zimpapers business manager – marketing Mrs Charity Gwata-Chirume said parents with competing babies should encourage their friends and families to vote. She said that they had opted for the public to vote AS THIS would minimise any claims of favouritism.
“We believe that every baby who is in the competition is beautiful and deserves a chance to win so we decided to put the winner’s fate in the hands of the public who will vote for their favourite babies.”
Voting slips are available from Zimpapers during the period designated for voting.
“I am happy that more and more parents are now interested in the competition with the number of entrants rising with each year. I think with the hype surrounding the competition this year we are also going to have more people taking part in the voting process,” enthused Mrs Gwata-Chirume.
The Sunday Mail, being the leading family paper in the country, has collaborated with various partners to promote family values using different initiatives like the baby competition, which promotes the wellness and care of children.
