THE Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Andrew Langa has urged the people of Tsholotsho North to vote for Professor Jonathan Moyo for the development of sport in the area and the country in general.

Addressing thousands of villagers that attended the Sipepa Sports and Cultural Gala in the Tsholotsho North constituency on Saturday, Minister Langa said Prof Moyo had done a lot for sports development despite not being a Member of Parliament and sport stands to benefit tremendously if he is voted in as the area’s House of Assembly representative on June 10.

“I want you to know today bantu beTsholotsho that when you vote Moyo on June 10, you’re also voting for sports development in the area and country at large. We know of course that victory is certain but what we want are numbers. We’re all aware that Moyo is spearheading the construction of Tsholotsho Stadium (so) we all need to rally behind the project and support him to the fullest,” said Minister Langa.

He said it would be historical to have a stadium built in rural Zimbabwe and Tsholotsho will set a trend which can and should be followed by other areas in the country.

Describing Moyo as a rare breed, Minister Langa said the people of Tsholotsho and Matabeleland North at large were lucky to have such brains in their midst.

“You people are lucky to have a genius in your midst. You must cherish that because if you don’t utilise his brains, we the people of Matabeleland South will take him and give him a farm. This man, I want to say this to you, you’re lucky to have Moyo,” said Minister Langa to thunderous applause from the villagers.

The gala had various sporting and cultural activities to suit the tastes of different people and the football match between the all-conquering Highlanders’ class of 98 and Tsholotsho was the drawing card.

The legendary Bosso side beat Tsholotsho Select 2-0 with both goals coming from the 2000 Footballer of the Year Zenzo Moyo.

Sipepa villagers could not believe their eyes when the legends, led by their former coach Rahman Gumbo, manager Ernest ‘Maphepha’ Sibanda and team medic Emmet Ndlovu arrived at the venue just after 1PM.

Villagers were ecstatic to see their football heroes in the flesh and could not hold back their joy as they freely mingled and mixed with the Highlanders’ legends.

Gumbo, Willard Khumalo, Blessing Gumiso, Thabani Masawi, Sizabantu Khoza, Gift Lunga Jnr, Alexander Phiri, Joel Luphahla, Maphepha, Simon Sibanda, Herbert Dick, Nkosana Gumbo and Tirivaviri Sithole as well as a number of radio personalities brought the Sipepa area to life with their mere presence.
