Zanu PF Secretary for Information and Publicity Cde Christopher Mutsvangwa has urged voters in Mhondoro-Mubaira constituency to vote for President Mnangagwa and Zanu PF in the forthcoming harmonised elections to ensure a continuation of the development trajectory the country has witnessed under the Second Republic.
Addressing a rally at Nyamweda Business Centre to drum up support for the ruling party’s National Assembly candidate Cde Chamu Chiwanza, he said the President had initiated developmental projects at a scale not seen before and deserved to return to office to maintain the development thrust.
Some of the projects embarked on by the Second Republic include road and dam construction, refurbishment of airports, and support for farmers through the Pfumvudza/Intwasa Inputs Scheme that had restored the country’s food security and boosted farm and rural incomes significantly, among others.
“President Mnangagwa has initiated development that is the envy of the region and has set the country on a growth path. That man is a visionary, he needs your support; he needs your vote because he wants to take the country far in terms of development,” he said.
Cde Mutsvangwa, who is also vying for Mashonaland West Senate seat, said Mhondoro district was blessed with vast mineral resources that include gold, platinum, chrome and iron ore, all of which will transform not only the district but the entire Mashonaland West, the country and beyond.
“Mhondoro has vast mineral resources and will only go further if you vote for the President and Zanu PF. We have platinum at Karo and Ngezi, we have chrome at Saruwe and iron ore at Manhize.
“All these are in the environs of Mhondoro and will transform the district and the constituency, to be the backbone of the country’s metallurgical industry,” he said.
The opposition CCC, said Cde Mutsvangwa, had nothing to offer as seen by the manner they have run down service delivery in urban areas.
“Only yesterday (Thursday) the mayor of Harare, Jacob Mafume was talking about taking over the running of beerhalls and can you honestly take such a person seriously and entrust him to run the country’s affairs,” he said. In his remarks, Cde Chiwanza said he had already started development projects in the constituency.
“We have distributed cement to schools in the constituency for the construction of classrooms and have also re-painted some classroom blocks.
“We are also paying fees for over 1 000 pupils through the Chamu Chiwanza Trust and soon, we are going to embark on an initiative to revive the cattle herd through artificial insemination after the constituency was affected by the January disease which killed many cattle.
“We will do more if the people vote for Zanu PF and President Mnangagwa back into office,” said Cde Chiwanza.
Cde Mutsvangwa also broke ground for the construction of a NetOne base station that is expected to improve connectivity in the area.
Meanwhile, MDC Alliance candidate for the constituency in the 2018 harmonised elections, Mr Chris Monera, joined Zanu PF during yesterday’s rally.
He said the CCC has nothing to offer the electorate.
