“We concentrated on our health sector in Zimbabwe; the support we are getting from the EU. There have been programmes going as far back as 2006 where they have been supporting us right up to the new programmes we have been coming up with. More important is the issue of transparency and accountability. We wanted to address some of the shortfalls which were taking place in the past,” he said.

He said the discussions had also covered new programmes that are supposed to start this year although the final decision on the nature of assistance to be extended would lie with Brussels.

Ambassador Olkkonen said the discussions had been a good platform to exchange notes on past and ongoing EU support to the country’s health sector.

He said discussions had also covered EU support to Zimbabwe’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic and the ongoing vaccination programme.
