Mukudzei Chingwere in ROME, Italy
Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga has arrived in Italy for Pope Leo XIV’s inaugural mass.
Pope Leo XIV assumed leadership of the Catholic Church following the death of Pope Francis and comes in with a commitment to interfaith dialogue and social justice.
With a strong background in theology and a history of advocating for the marginalised, the new Pope is expected to address the challenges facing the church today.
VP Chiwenga said Zimbabwe fully appreciates everything the church has done for the country and stands shoulder to shoulder with the Vatican.

The VP said as he represents President Mnangagwa at the inauguration, the Government of Zimbabwe and its people wish the church and the Pope God’s blessings and guidance.
Dr Chiwenga is accompanied by his wife Colonel Miniyothabo Chiwenga and Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister, Professor Amon Murwira, among other senior Government officials.
Zimbabwe’s delegation was welcomed by the country’s representative in Italy, Ambassador Mietani Chauke.
