Vice President Dr Kembo Mohadi is attending Professor Simbi Veke Mubako’s 90th birthday celebrations being held at Heritage Village in Harare, where he is the guest of honour.
Prof Mubako was born on April 20, 1936.
He played a crucial role during the liberation war struggle, which saw him being appointed the chief legal advisor of Zanu at the Lancaster House Conference in London in 1979.

Prof Mubako was the first Minister of Justice when Zimbabwe attained independence.
After a Cabinet reshuffle, Prof Mubako was appointed Minister of Home Affairs and later became Minister of Public Affairs.
He was also a judge of the High Court, where he served for 10 years.
In 1999, Prof Mubako was sent on a diplomatic mission where he served as Zimbabwean Ambassador to the United States of America, where he served for six years.
It was during his stint as ambassador in Washington D.C. that Zimbabwe was placed under illegal sanctions.

Prof Mubako was then seized with the huge responsibility to lobby for the removal of the sanctions.
He is also known for playing a crucial role in advising ZANU PF on all the legal frameworks and negotiations with the West, including the land reform programme.
Currently, Prof Mubako is the Chairperson of the Institute of African Knowledge (Instak).
