The second edition of the netball and soccer tournament honouring Vice President Dr Kembo Mohadi concludes today in Beitbridge. Hosted by Welton Primary School and Ronnie’s Arena, the event celebrates local talent and community engagement.

The tournament began with enthusiasm yesterday featuring 12 teams from various constituencies.

Today’s schedule includes the semi-finals and finals at Ronnie’s Arena where VP Mohadi will officiate and present grants to Young Women for Economic Development in Matabeleland South.

This year’s theme — “Championing excellence: Harnessing multidisciplinary sporting and innovation to curb drug and substance abuse towards an upper-middle-income society by 2030” — promotes healthy lifestyles among youths.

The event organised by the provincial ZANU PF Youth League seeks to celebrate the Vice President’s legacy and the vision of the Second Republic.

Hundreds of young participants have gathered in Beitbridge raising awareness about drug abuse. Last year’s winners invested their prize money into youth initiatives showcasing the tournament’s empowering potential.

Local leaders have praised the event with suggestions to host similar tournaments across all seven districts to promote inclusivity.

The gala also aims to include girls in grassroots sports and combat substance abuse.

Preparations for the event were confirmed by Mr Newman Masuku Deputy Director in the VP’s office. Notably, the tournament coincides with VP Mohadi’s birthday celebrations on November 15.

Following the gala he will visit Oakleigh House Private School to review its expansion programme.
