VP Mujuru back home from UAE

where she attended the 3rd Horasis Global Arab Business meeting.

Speaking shortly before take off at Dubai International Airport, VP Mujuru described the meeting which was held in Ras Al Khaimah as having opened more doors for investment opportunities for Zimbabwe.

She said although the meeting had been held just for two days, it had yielded more positive results for the country than weeks of discussion.

VP Mujuru said that the delegation to United Arab Emirates had gone there with a certain shopping list of investment opportunities, but more had been offered by the Arab counterparts.

She said a number of rich people in the United Arab Emirates had shown great interest in opening businesses in Zimbabwe.

“We were actually saying what an impressive 48-hour journey because we achieved more than what we achieved from trips of several weeks,” said VP Mujuru.

She said the new friendship created between Zimbabwe and the United Arab Emirates will also help local agricultural programmes.

“What we should be asking is: what is it that we can supply to this new market?”

“They were saying yes we can do the mini hydros, but we can also do the bigger ones, the actual hydros that can give you more in terms of voltage for energy that you want to use, so this is what is going to happen to our country,” she said.

The Global Arab Business meeting started on Sunday and ended on Monday with a dinner                 hosted by the Crown Prince of Ras Khaimah, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi at the exquisite Al Hamra Palace Hotel. Making his closing statements at the dinner termed “The Middle East at the Crossroads”, the Minister and Senior Economic Adviser to the President of Afghanistan, Sham Bathija said despite the problems which his country faced, it was poised for growth.

He said his government was going through a process of rebuilding as they were looking at                 ways of incorporating women into business.
