The Nigerian Community in Zimbabwe has donated items worth US$18 000 towards today’s 21st February Movement celebrations in Harare.
The main celebrations will be held at the Harare International Conference Centre with some 10 000 young Zimbabweans from all over the country expected to attend and hear an address from President Mugabe.
The movement seeks to instill in the young the principles that have guided President Mugabe and made him one of Africa’s most revered statesmen and a champion of black empowerment.
Yesterday, Zanu-PF national chairman Cde Simon Khaya Moyo received the donation of 2 000 T-shirts worth US$15 000 and US$3 000 in cash from the local Nigerian community.
Cde Khaya Moyo said, “It is not just a gift but an expression of the solidarity we have enjoyed between the two countries. Zimba-bwe and Nigeria have enjoyed excellent cordial relations and it is for this cause that the Nigerian community in Zimbabwe has come to show an appreciation of this national event.”
Cde Khaya Moyo said the 21st February Movement celebrations gave the nation an opportunity to reflect on President Mugabe’s journey from the liberation struggle to the present battles for sovereignty.
“We are saying the youth should emulate the exemplary leadership of his Excellency President Mugabe who is principled, uncompromising and encouraging. The youth who share the same birthday with the President from all provinces in the country are going to be the honoured as the VVIPs at the celebrations today,” he said.
The chairman of the Nigerian Community in Zimbabwe, Mr Simon Udemba, said the youth should make use of the opportunities President Mugabe had presented them with. “The youth of Zimbabwe must utilise education, farms and minerals since this is their rightful inheritance,” he said.
