Addressing delegates at the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce annual networking day, VP Mujuru said Zimbabwe’s economy had largely stabilised, with inflation now in single digit since the establishment of the inclusive Government in early 2009.
“Recalling the triple-digit rates (of inflation) that we had to operate under in the past few years, we must surely take advantage of the current environment and expand operations,” she said in a speech read on her behalf.
She said government was taking initiatives to address challenges facing industry such as the investment environment, liquidity constraints and power outages.
Effort would continue to be made to refine policy measures to support business and economic growth, she said.
“Efficiency, cost competitiveness, consistency and co-operation between Government and the private sector are vital to the revival of industry and the economy at large,” said VP Mujuru.
Meanwhile, diplomats who spoke at the event urged Zimbabwean companies to exploit investment and trade opportunities in their countries.
Diplomats from Egypt, Malawi, Sudan and Zambia said vast opportunities existed in their countries, which could be exploited by local companies.
Egypt’s deputy ambassador Ahmed Moharan noted that while Zimbabwe’s political relations with the Arab country were strong, economic links were, however, weak. – New Ziana.
