THE 2015 edition of the National Vocational Training Centres Sport, Arts and Culture Gala will get underway at Magamba Training Centre in Mutare next Tuesday.
The fourth edition of the sport, arts and culture competitions will see representatives of the VTCs from different provinces across the country battling for supremacy.
The curtain comes down on the gala next Friday.
A total of nine provinces will be represented, with Matabeleland North the only absentee owing to the absence of a fully functioning vocational training centre in the province.
Hosting institution, Magamba Provincial Vocational Training Centre principal, Isaiah Sabwe, confirmed that the gala will go ahead as scheduled.
Sabwe said the gala would also come in hand ahead of the province’s preparations for the National Youth Games to be held in Mutare in August.
“The National Vocational Training Centres Sport, Arts and Culture Gala will be hosted by Magamba Provincial Training Centre from next Tuesday to Friday.
“This is the fourth edition of the sport, arts and culture competitions that brings together participants representing different provinces from across the country.
“I think this is also an opportunity for the province of Manicaland to identify talent ahead of the National Youth Games to be hosted by Manicaland. There is no doubt that there will be a lot of talented youths from Manicaland whose talent need to be harnessed for the betterment of the individual and the nation at large,” he said.
The inaugural edition of the event was hosted by Masvingo and Mashonaland Central hosted the second edition, while the third edition was hosted by the Midlands Province at Kaguvi Vocational Training Centre, just outside Kwekwe.
Participants will compete in soccer, netball, volleyball, athletics, indoor games that include chess, darts and cultural competitions such as traditional dance.
During the provincial finals, where Mainkep Hardware proprietor, Chamunorwa Chiurungo was guest of honour, Magamba Vocational Training Centre ruled the roost after collecting the highest number of gold medals ahead of other competitors that include Buhera, Nyanyadzi, Kukwanisa, Chipinge, Marange and Mutare vocational training centres.
