ZIMBABWE Football Association (Zifa) electoral committee chairman, Vusilizwe Vuma has resigned from his position citing work commitments.
Vuma, the Zifa electoral board chairperson since last year when the Zifa Congress appointed him and his committee stepped down from his role at the beginning of the month.
He indicated that he had sent his communication to resign to Zifa president Felton Kamambo and the association’s general secretary Joseph Mamutse.
A lawyer by profession, Vuma was recently appointed chief executive officer of the Deposit Protection Corporation.
“I resigned from my role as the Zifa electoral committee chairman on 2 July due to work commitments, with that kind of workload I can’t continue in that position. Our term was four years. It was a good experience,’’ Vuma said.
Other members of the electoral committee are vice-chairman Tinashe Tanyanyiwa, Sara Sumbureru, Charles Vhudzi, Shepherd Chamunorwa, Chenaimoyo Gumiro, Jonathan Chibvige, Liberty Mcijo and Reginald Chidawanyika.
“We confirm he resigned,’’ said Zifa communications and competitions manager Xolisani Gwesela.
The Zifa leadership must now decide on the new chairman of the electoral committee. Vuma explained that the executive committee can pick the chairman from the remaining members since it does not follow that the vice-chairman takes over when chairperson resigns.
Before taking up the Zifa role, Vuma was the chairman of the PSL disciplinary committee from 2009 to 2017.
He stepped down at the end of the 2017 season.
