VUNGU constituency legislator, Cde Brown Ndlovu of Zanu-PF, has donated more than 5 000 bricks and cement towards the construction of toilets and a guardroom at Lower Gweru Busy Hands Post Harvest Centre.

Handing over the donation recently, Cde Ndlovu urged the local community to ensure such donations are used for their intended purpose.

The harvest centre serves as a storage and processing facility for farm produce from Mkoba, London, Insukamini and Mambanjeni irrigation schemes.

Cde Ndlovu said the post-harvest centre is very important for farmers as they are able to keep their produce in good condition before marketing.

“The Lower Gweru Busy Hands Post Harvest Centre plays a crucial role in the local agricultural economy. It provides farmers with a central location to store and process their produce thereby ensuring quality and extended shelf life,” he said.

The centre which was established last year, is benefiting more than 400 smallholder farmers, mainly those cultivating horticulture crops.

Meanwhile, farmers have said the centre has proved to be a game-changer in their farming operations as it is promoting rural industrialisation.

“We are into full-scale horticulture farming and the returns are favourable. I am now able to send my children to school and live a decent life,” said one of the farmers, Ms Maria Dube.

Another farmer, Mr Clayton Mubuso, said they are now able to store their produce in good condition hence are being paid well for their crops.

“I want to thank our honourable MP for his generous donation to us because it confirms that he supports agricultural production in his area,” he said.
