VUNGU Rural District in Lower Gweru has allocated part of the $25 million it received under the Devolution Fund for the construction of a clinic to improve health delivery in the area.
Gweru Rural District Development Coordinator Mr Joraam Chimedza said once completed the clinic will serve a number of villages among them Sweswe, Ndabambi, Gobo, Ndadigwa, Mbizo, Mthethwa, Mloyiswa and Woodend Farm.
Vungu RDC chief executive officer Mr Alex Magura said they identified Tovho area after realising that the area was surrounded by resettlement farms.
“Some people from the area were walking 30-35 kilometres just to access the nearest health facility,” he said.
He said council has since 2019 received more than $25 million from the Government under the devolution fund for various projects in the area.
“The council bought all the building materials using devolution funds and we are looking forward to complete the construction of the clinic by the end of this year,” he said
Mr Magura said council will also install solar power system, fence and connect water to the facility.
“Villagers are participating by providing locally available materials such as bricks, pit sand, river sand, water and their labour.”
