I met someone who had just experienced a major disappointment, they appeared defeated and it seemed as if they had resigned themselves to the belief that life as they knew it had come to an end.
When we experience heartache and disappointment it can almost take the life out of us. It’s very difficult to accept and move on. When you are going through the effects of disappointment, all the advice you are given and the kind words offered go in through one ear and out through the other.
Nothing makes sense and the only thing you feel is the pain and the need to seek retribution. Each one of us is a survivor of some tragedy or the other. We all have a story to tell of a major tragedy that shaped who we are or literally shook us to our very core.
Somehow we survived to tell the story, we are here as a living testimony of a miracle. The most difficult thing to do is to encourage someone in that state that there is light at the end of the tunnel, that all this shall surely come to pass.
We sometimes make the mistake of believing that the rest of our lives will be characterised by this place where we may find ourselves today. Yet the truth is that as surely as the sun rises each day, this too shall end and become, but a distant memory.
It’s sometimes hard to reconcile that our affliction presents an opportunity for the Lord to be glorified not only by you, but those who will see you at your worst and then witness your subsequent recovery.
For you, the pain brings an opportunity for you to totally give yourself to God, with all the options gone you literally have no option, but to trust in God because it’s the only thing you can hold on to.
Trusting in the Lord may prove to be a bit difficult when things are going your way, but when you are experiencing turmoil and conflict you have nothing to hold on to other than to hold Him at His promise for a better tomorrow.
Likewise, as we navigate through the challenges we may find ourselves in, sometimes the world cannot find anything to attribute your strength and success to, other than the providence of the Lord.
Encourage someone in doubt with your own story today and when you are caught between a rock and a hard place yourself, remember where He has brought you from, surely He won’t let you down now.
