RISING Aces Youth Academy starlet Walter Musona is set to make his debut on the big stage this season after agreeing to a short contract with struggling former champions Motor Action. The Young Warriors forward, who is heavily tipped to be the next big thing to come from Zimbabwe football, Knowledge, has been loaned to the Mighty Bulls by his lower division side for the remainder of the season.
Motor Action coach Joey Antipas yesterday revealed they have roped in the 18-year old together with another promising young midfielder from the academy, Wisdom Mutasa, who is son of Dynamos legend Lloyd Mutasa.
Aces Youth Soccer Academy is famed for producing top quality players like Musona’s brother Knowledge, Khama Billiat, Abbas Amidu and George Chigova.
The young Musona, who has just returned from a trial stint at South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns, has attracted interests from foreign clubs like English giants Chelsea and Cape Town Ajax who invited him for assessment in the last two years.
Antipas said the arrival of the new players was a relief to the cash-strapped Mighty Bulls who were deserted by about 10 players during the mid-season transfer period.
“We have managed to fill in all the gaps and registered a number of young players. We also picked one or two from our juniors and we have Walter Musona from Aces Youth Academy.
“I know he has been on trials in South Africa recently and it’s only Aces Youth Academy who knows what happened there.
“But what we are sure of is that the young player will be with us until the end of the season,” said Antipas.
Motor Action also registered former CAPS United midfielder Marvel Samaneka on a short contract that will last until the end of the season.
The 28-year old will return to the top-flight after spending about 10 months in the football wilderness following his acrimonious departure from the Green Machine.
Samaneka was sacked by Makepekepe last September and only resurfaced at Motor Action Sports Club this week just on time for the mid-season transfer deadline which closed midnight on Wednesday.
The Mighty Bulls lost most of their experienced players like Charles Mutero, Charles Chiutsa, Rueben Machaya, Dylan Chivandire, Blessing Sande, Tigere Muparaganda, Blessing Sande and the Matawu brothers, Clement and Louis.
“We decided to get Samaneka because we needed an experienced player to help the youngsters in the midfield. But we are still looking at his fitness,” said Antipas. The Mighty Bulls currently occupy bottom place on the table and are eight points away from the cut-off point with 12 games remaining.
However, Antipas believes with the right attitude they can survive relegation. It’s going to be a difficult next couple of months but I believe it’s not too late.
If we hit good form and win some games consistently in our next assignments we can improve our chances. The guys are putting in lots of effort and (I am always telling them) we got to maintain the spirit. We would need to fight until the end of the season,” said Antipas.
Motor Action will resume their campaign against Dynamos at Rufaro next week during the mid-week but today they will host Gunners in a practice match.
Newboys Tripple B, who like Motor Action have also seen their financial woes translating into poor results on the field, have employed former Monomotapa forward Makai Kawashu and experienced defender Blessing Mazorodze.
