Harare regional magistrate Mrs Marehwanazvo Gofa has served former Foreign Affairs Minister Walter Mzembi with State papers before indicting him to the High Court for trial, which is slated for 24 November.

The former minister is facing charges linked to the alleged abuse of public funds during his time as Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry.

Prosecutors accuse Mzembi of misappropriating television screens valued at US$2 million, which were procured to establish public viewing fan parks during the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

The State alleges that the televisions were later converted for personal use.

In addition to the theft allegations, Mzembi is also accused of breaching his bail conditions by failing to surrender his passport by 19 November 2018 and skipping a scheduled court appearance on 18 January 2019.
