BULAWAYO is reeling from shock after the shocking exposé by B-Metro about a so-called “church” in Robert Sinyoka that allegedly performs sex rituals on women under the guise of prophecy and healing.
The story has ignited a storm of outrage across social media, with residents, pastors, and traditional leaders condemning the practice as pure evil masquerading as worship. Many are now calling for swift police action to shut down the group, which some describe as a rebirth of the notorious Wapusa Wapusa sect of the 1990s.
The revelations have left a bitter taste in the mouths of many believers.
“This is a disgrace,” fumed Friday Phiri on Facebook. “We are letting our city die. It’s time for Mthwakazi to rise and stop this filth.”
Another commenter, Elizabeth Noko, was equally horrified. “Indeed, it’s the end of days. Where is Zimbabwe headed? I honestly don’t know anymore,” she wrote.
Daniel Dube pulled no punches. “These women are simply prostitutes hiding behind prayers. This will never be forgiven by God,” he said.
The alleged sex cult has caused so much fear that residents in Pumula and Robert Sinyoka have launched their own clean-up campaign, physically clearing the area and spiritually cleansing it of what they call “evil influences.”
City of Bulawayo rangers have been assisting in the process, while Councillor Sikhululekile Moyo of Pumula South said the perpetrators appeared to be fleeing after the exposure.
“They are now running away, but soon we will completely clean this place,” Moyo vowed.
Bulawayo Mayor David Coltart stressed that while freedom of worship is constitutionally protected, it does not give anyone the right to commit crimes.
“The allegations are serious,” Coltart said. “We call upon the ZRP to investigate and prosecute those responsible. The city will not condone violations of our by-laws or criminal laws.”
Traditional leaders have also denounced the group.
“There is no such thing as healing through sex,” said respected traditional healer Mhabinyana. “This is unethical and forbidden. These are not healers, they are witches and fraudsters seeking fame and money. True healing comes from ancestors, not exploitation.”
Local pastors have been equally vocal. Pastor Chikomo of House of Grace Church blasted the group as an outright cult.
“Whatever we call a church must align with the Bible,” he said. “What they are doing is not of God. They are operating under a different spirit and have simply rebranded to make money.”
Bishop Dr S Nyathi of Harvest House International Church called the revelations “bizarre and shocking.”
“This is not Christianity,” he declared. “The Bible forbids fornication and adultery. These so-called prophets are predators exploiting vulnerable women. Prayer is free — no one should ever pay with money or their bodies.”
Bishop Prophet Dr B S Chiza of Eagle Life Assembly went further, likening the cult to “a return of satanic Wapusa Wapusa practices in broad daylight.”
“This is demonic and utterly evil,” Chiza thundered. “Nowhere in the Bible did prophets demand nudity or sexual acts for healing. Jesus healed through faith and prayer, never exploitation.”
As the backlash grows, residents are demanding tighter regulation of spiritual gatherings and harsher penalties for rogue pastors.
“This must end now,” said one resident. “Freedom of worship must never be a shield for criminals.”
For now, the people of Robert Sinyoka are left battling to reclaim their community, their faith, and their dignity in the wake of one of the most shocking scandals Bulawayo has ever seen.
