The Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) has called for respect towards party leaders at all levels and called for unity among members of the ruling Zanu PF party.

Speaking at a press conference in Harare yesterday, association spokesperson Cde Cornelius Muwoni highlighted the importance of discipline and loyalty in strengthening the party.

He condemned acts of insulting or denigrating the party leadership, including President Mnangagwa and his Vice Presidents.

“Anyone found insulting or denouncing the party leadership, President Mnangagwa, and his Vice Presidents is undermining the President, who is also the appointing authority.

“If anyone is aggrieved, there are proper channels which might be followed to address their grievances,” said Cde Muwoni.

He emphasised that war veterans were key stakeholders in Zanu PF, having sacrificed their lives for the country’s independence.

He criticised those he referred to as “political minnows” for claiming to love the party more than those who formed it and fought for the independence that is being enjoyed today.

“They should know that President Mnangagwa and his Vice Presidents are all war veterans.

“They know each other better, before, during, and after independence. They were in the trenches together for a long time.

“They are the pioneers of the First and Second Republic, hence there is no need to sow seeds of division among them. We want peace,” he said.

This statement comes amid reports of some party members, including Cde Blessing Geza, denouncing President Mnangagwa and calling for his resignation.

Additionally, there have been claims of individuals disrespecting Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, who presided over the burial of national hero Justin Mupamhanga at the National Heroes Acre earlier this week.

Cde Muwoni stated that denigrating party leadership infringes on others’ rights and urged members to seek guidance from their superiors instead of resorting to public insults or divisive actions.

“Let us be loyal to the party and respect the party leadership.

“We should seek guidance from our leaders instead of using state functions to score cheap political points.

“Genuine party members should be respectful, disciplined, and focused on defending the party,” he said.

Discipline was essential for the party’s cohesion and growth, and members should emulate the respect and leadership shown by President Mnangagwa and his deputies, he said.

“Discipline is good in strengthening the party. President Mnangagwa and his deputies respect everyone, so we must emulate what they are doing,” said Cde Muwoni.

He called for unity and a collective focus on achieving Vision 2030, which aims to transform Zimbabwe into an upper-middle-income economy.

He emphasised that the resilience and sacrifices of war veterans would continue to inspire progress toward national objectives.

“The war veterans remain vital in driving the country in the quest to achieve its objectives through offering leadership in communities and also at the national level,” he said.

Cde Muwoni concluded by reiterating that war veterans were guided by the President, who was their patron, and that their unwavering commitment would help propel Zimbabwe towards its ambitious development goals.
